If you are like most people then you suffer from some type of pain in your life and you need relief. This pain may be manifested in the physical or psychological realm. Many people suffer from foot and lower leg pain. In order to properly take care of these problems, it may be a good idea to do some research and further reading about problems with feet.

The foot and ankle are composed of a network of bones and tendons that are critical to the every day motions which are needed in order to become and stay mobile.

A human foot contains 26 bones including 7 tarsals (ankle bones), 5 metatarsals (instep bones), and 14 phalanges (toe bones). The main arch of the foot is called the plantar arch. It runs lengthwise and touches the ground only at the heel bone and at the ball of the foot. The plantar arch is thickly padded at both ends.

Although there appears to be plenty of natural padding for the plantar arch, there still can be a variety of problems in this general area of the foot. Of the foot pain problems that are found in this area, Plantar Fasciitis is the most common. Plantar fasciitis is a general irritation of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is the tough tissue that is found on the very bottom of the foot. It starts at the heel and is attached to the toes. Plantar fasciitis can lead to pain and result in a heel spur. A heel spur is a bony growth on the underside, forepart of the heel bone. This condition can lead to moderate or severe heel pain if not cared for.

Many foot problems can often be blamed on shoes that do not provide enough arch support and heel stability. Some of the more common problems that are associated with foot pain are bunions, shin splints, ingrown toenails, metatarsalgia, mortons neuroma, plantar fasciitis and general heel pain.

Fortunately, there are steps that you can take in order to care for your foot pain. Some of the more common remedies include arch supports, insoles, custom insoles, orthopedic shoes, support stockings and toe straighteners.

Foot problems are brought on by neglect and lack of care. This can include buying shoes that do not fit properly. Women are especially prone to foot problems, mostly due to the fact that they where higher heels and have smaller bones and more sensitive feet. Overall, 3 out of 4 people in the United States will experience foot care problems at some time in their life.

Did you know that the average person walks enough miles in one lifetime to have walked around the entire world approximately 4 times? That's a lot of wear and tear! Be good to your feet and they will be good to you.
